Joy in Fellowship
Scripture: Galatians 6:2 | Date: April 19, 2026 – All-Church Outdoor Service
Today at our all-church outdoor service, our pastor proclaimed through Galatians 6:2 that bearing one another’s burdens is the law of Christ.
Aaron and Hur – Bearing Burdens Through Action, Not Words
The story of Aaron and Hur from Exodus was the starting point. In a battle where Israel could only prevail as long as Moses kept his hands raised, these two men didn’t just cheer Moses on with words – they physically held up his arms. This is what it truly means to bear burdens together. The pastor said this is precisely what the law of Christ looks like.
When We Cannot Feel the Weight of Grace
The reason we are able to do this is that Christ has already borne all our burdens (Matthew 11:28). Yet in the familiarity of daily life, we often fail to truly feel that grace. We accept it intellectually, but it doesn’t reach deep into our hearts.
Service as the Channel of Grace
Ironically, whether or not we feel the weight of Christ carrying our burdens, when we voluntarily choose to carry another person’s pain alongside them, we find ourselves feeling that grace anew and giving thanks for it. Service becomes the very channel through which grace flows.
Applying This to Our Small Group Community
Applying this message to our small group community, we want to genuinely share one another’s burdens and experience the joy of being together. One suggestion: each week, as the member who serves through meals or snacks shares their prayer requests, we could take time together to pray for them throughout the week. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
